Petersen Onsite Restoration: A Different Approach to Helping Homeowners Recover

When a home is damaged by water, fire, smoke, or mold, the loss can extend far beyond the building itself. Furniture, personal belongings, flooring, and other items may all be affected, leaving homeowners trying to figure out what can be saved and what happens next.

For Greg Petersen, owner of Petersen Onsite Restoration LLC (POR), that process presented an opportunity to approach restoration differently.
Based in Arroyo Grande and serving San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, POR is a mobile restoration company built around a simple idea: whenever possible, bring the restoration process to the property instead of taking the homeowner’s belongings away.
From Technical Work to Restoration
Greg’s path into restoration started long before he launched POR.
Before entering the restoration industry, he spent years working in his family’s business, Specialty Sales, installing automated hoof-bath dosing systems on dairy farms throughout California.

He started in the field learning fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and diagnostics, then added sales and account management. That combination taught Greg how to solve technical problems while also communicating clearly with customers.
Those skills would eventually become an important part of POR.
After seeing how the traditional restoration industry often handled major losses, Greg began questioning whether there was a better approach.
When a home experiences significant water or fire damage, belongings may be packed into trucks and transported to an off-site warehouse for cleaning and storage. Greg saw an opportunity to keep more of that process at the homeowner’s property.
He trained in restoration at Firehouse Education in Spokane and earned IICRC certifications covering water damage, mold, fire and smoke, odor control, and structural cleaning.
From there, Petersen Onsite Restoration was born.
Bringing the Restoration Facility to the Home

At the center of POR’s approach is a 37-foot mobile restoration trailer equipped for contents and structural decontamination.
Rather than automatically packing up a home and transporting its contents to a warehouse, POR can clean and restore many affected belongings right on the property.
POR provides:

Water damage extraction, drying, and moisture documentation
Fire and smoke restoration
Mold remediation and containment
On-site contents cleaning and processing
Structural cleaning and deodorization
Digital inventory and documentation
Insurance claim documentation support
Assistance throughout the insurance claims process

POR works with homeowners and small commercial properties, as well as property managers, HOA boards, insurance professionals, plumbers, and other trades that may be the first to discover a loss.
Greg is joined by Project Manager and field lead Alex Barona, who holds a Class A CDL and is IICRC certified. Greg and Alex work together on-site, giving customers continuity throughout the restoration process.
Why Keeping Belongings On-Site Matters
POR’s zero pack-out approach is about more than convenience.
Keeping contents at the property can give homeowners greater visibility into what is happening to their belongings while reducing the transportation and handling involved in moving everything to and from an outside warehouse.
POR combines this approach with daily plain-language communication, digital inventory records, photographs, and documentation designed to help homeowners and insurance professionals understand the work being performed.
For Greg, though, the most rewarding part is much more personal.
“Being able to bring relief and real joy to homeowners, showing them that what they thought couldn’t be saved actually can be. That moment is what brings me true joy in this work.”
Saving a Hardwood Floor and Nearly $100,000
One POR project in Solvang shows how valuable the right restoration approach can be.
A fire sprinkler activated in the attic of a 4,300-square-foot home, sending water down through several areas of the property, including the shop, bathroom, laundry room, and living room.
One of the biggest concerns was the home’s hardwood flooring.
The expected solution was to remove the affected hardwood and install a new floor over the concrete slab.
Instead, POR used a specialized drying mat system to dry the hardwood flooring in place.

The floor was saved.
According to Greg, avoiding its replacement saved the homeowner approximately $100,000.
It was a perfect example of the philosophy behind POR: before assuming something has to be torn out or thrown away, determine whether it can be restored.
Who Is a Great Referral for Petersen Onsite Restoration?

A great referral for POR is often someone facing an unexpected water, fire, smoke, or mold problem.
That could be a homeowner who has just discovered water damage, a property manager or HOA dealing with a water or mold issue, or a plumber who discovers damage while working at a customer’s property.
Insurance agents and adjusters can also refer policyholders who need prompt mitigation accompanied by thorough documentation.

POR can also help homeowners and real estate professionals address fire or smoke damage that needs to be resolved before the sale of a property.
In many of these situations, getting a restoration professional involved quickly can make an important difference in determining what can be dried, cleaned, restored, or saved.
Rooted on the Central Coast
Greg lives in San Luis Obispo with his wife, Jess, and daughter, Emery.
They enjoy everything the Central Coast has to offer, including local events, live music, breweries, food, community gatherings, and time with friends and family.
Music is also an important part of Greg’s life.

He holds a certification in Audio Engineering and Music Business from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and previously freelanced recording and producing artists. Today, he keeps that interest alive through a small project recording studio he built in Arroyo Grande.
That combination of technical curiosity, hands-on problem solving, and connection with people has followed Greg throughout his career.
Today, he’s putting it to work helping Central Coast homeowners recover from some of the most disruptive events they can experience, while finding ways to save more of what matters to them.
